Contact Vodafone regarding a default on my account

I received a massive bill on Nov for an internet dongle. I was informed this a stop on when I reached my limit but they never ended on putting one on. After trying to dispute it they were having none of it, calling me a liar etc.. I decided to close my account and just pay the bill.

i agreed to £30 a month as I could not afford to pay the £250 they were requesting.

i paid this until Feb when I got a letter from a debt agency.

i rang them and they said even though I was paying every month the agreed payment Vodafone had sent it to the agency. I paid it all off in one there and then, the remaining £110 plus £36 fee to debt agency.

i have now got a default on my credit file and still saying I owe £110 but when I ring up you say my accounts cleared and closed!!!!

Hi @Sarakpowell

Its my understanding that if a payment programme is agreed to then this can be reported on a persons Credit File.

Vodafone are not required to inform a person they have added a Default.

If Vodafone have made an error then the Team here will offer to collate your info and pass it onto the relevant department for further consideration.

I wish you all the best with this situation as I know from personal experience how damaging a 6 year default can be.

Hi @Sarakpowell

This will be one for the Credit Team to pick up.

The point of having a payment plan is to avoid having a default and to enable you to pay an affordable agreed amount on a monthly basis to clear the arrears.  If you were paying the agreed amount on monthly basis, although reported against your credit file, the debt should not have been sold onto a debt recovery agency.

As far as the remaining amount is concerned, credit agencies update the records at 30 days intervals, most probably your file has not been updated to reflect the cleared account.

I hope this is sorted for you.

Hi @AnnS

i was shocked when I received a letter out the blue as I had stuck to the arrangement. When I mentioned this to the debt agency, they said it was up to Vodafone and if it goes past 6months to pay it off then they can do. Even though I got the bill in Nov and got the letter Jan!!

It got paid paid off in Jan so it is well past the 30 days by now.

thanks for your help
