Strange excessive data use on mobile broadband

Hi,

I've very recently - 9 days ago - signed up to Vodafone mobile broadband 50GB plan using there mifi mobile router for use at home on my boat with our laptops.

As I have not used this before I have been keen to see how the speeds compare to my old Plusnet broadband and keep an eye on data usage.

I was therefore very surprised to see my account saying I had used 13GB of data over 2 nights! I checked the usage breakdown and saw a number of very strange readings of the same amount at small intervals:

16 Jan 2107
18:34  990.03 MB
19:33 990.03 MB
21:07 967.97 MB
21:25 990.03 MB
21:41 967.97 MB
21:57 765.02 MB
22:10 967.97 MB
22:30 199.16 MB

17 Jan 2017
07:09 11.49 MB
20.21 990.03 MB
20:35 967.97 MB
20:49 990.03 MB
21:05 967.97 MB
21:21 495.01 MB
21;28 967.97 MB
21:47 990.03 MB

22:05 234.86 MB

On the 16 I did download a couple of shows from iplayer (approx 1.5GB) but nothing to use anywhere near that much data.

I called the supprot line this morning but whilst courteous weren't able to do anything other than suggest visiting a store.

Has anyone experienced similar issues and how did you resolve it?

Thanks for any advice!

@pipcoo This is going to sound totally daft, but is there a "here" somewhere in the PM? If so, it may be an invisible link - try mousing over it, and see what you can find.

@Annie_N

Thanks for the reply, there is a "here" in the message but nothing shows when mousing over it. I have 2 more instances of strange data usage .

09 Aug 17 - 08:25Internet 826.95 MB£0.00
09 Aug 17 - 05:00Internet 561.28 MB£0.00

Note that the 560 MB is at 5 in the morning when nobody was awake. I am going to turn my internet off for a few hours to see if any usage shows during that time.

@pipcoo Sometimes when on your message inbox you need to click to view the full message, then the hyperlink becomes available.

You can do this by clicking on the heading of my message which was Vodafone Community

This will then open up the message in full and should then allow you to click the hyperlink located under the word here

I've sent you a new private message as well - give this a go and let us know how you get on. :smileyhappy:

Re: WRT165 [#16629421]

Please have a look at the latest information, my account is almost at the data limit, they've applied a recurring 2gb of data. That is chargeable. And I've just had £30 taken from my bank when I was told there would be £12 discount.

I thought the least they could do after this data issue and all the back and forth emailing they should have given the 15gb extra data, and that's still less than has been taken by the recurring 990.03mb usage.

Please help 😢

This situation is unacceptable, I`m waiting for a sim from 3 to arrive and if coverage is good enough I`ll be cancelling with Vodafone.

@pipcoo

I entirely sympathise. However, do be careful about cancelling your contract with Vodafone, to ensure that you don't incur any early exit fees. I think you may have mentioned your contract type in an earlier post, but please excuse my not searching back!

Annie.

I`m on a 30 day contract so just have to give 30 days notice.

@pipcoo That's fine then! The only other thing is not to cancel your direct debit until you've received your final zero invoice. Though I do hope that Vodafone manages to sort this out for you before it comes to that.
