I have just signed up for Vodafone Broadband (DSL) and have realised that they say (here) that you 'must' use the first party router for plans with digital voice. I believe my plan will have digital voice. Does this mean I cannot use my own router (without double NAT)? If so, is there either PPPoA to PPPoE conversion so that the third party router can do PPP onwards? This would be the next best thing after using the third party router only. And, if not, is there a bridge mode where the third party router acquires the public IP and hence only does single NAT?

Also, I do not mind not having a working landline if it means that I can use my third-party router.

You will lose digital voice if you use a third party router. But if the people at Vodafone are having a good day you can get hold of your voip details. Armed with this info and a £20 ATA from ebay you can get digital voice back.

I've only ever used netgear or Asus routers. PPPoE forwarding won't work as you can only have one endpoint (router).

No problem then, use any VDSL router you like.
