Router System Error Codes

JB_MASON

Hi all,
Can anyone direct me to where I can look up the error codes that appear on the router events log?
They are maybe for Vodafones use only, but I'm a nosey ##~## and would love to know what the errors mean. 😜

Yup the messages that you posted are not firewall warnings.  They are messages that some code on your router is going to run using the user "vodafone", and that an unauthorised request is going to be redirected to a "NotAuthorised" handler.  Those scripts may be generated as the result of errors, but they are not the errors themselves.

Just refining what you see to the specific event code and putting that into Google should help.  They are event codes rather than error codes though, so the router will be reporting things such as dropping packets from "unsolicited" sources - which it's meant to do unless you've opened a port for some reason!

The likes of this:
5436#0: *92 [lua] session.lua:103: changeUser(): changing user to vodafone.
5436#0: *91 [lua] sessionmgr.lua:250: redirectIfNotAuthorized(): Unauthorized request.

They are system warnings, not firewall warnings.

Cheers!

I will wait till their 10 days optimizing of the network is done and then change to my old ISP's router. It's easier to work with and has more options for tweaking the service. It also gets higher download and upload speeds for some strange reason, I tested it on day 2 of my connection going live.

It's unusual for one ISP's router to work on another. Out of interest, what router and ISP was it? Did you have to get your username and password from Vodafone to make it work?

Zyxel router that Postoffice Broadband uses.

Postoffice is the best I've seen so far for my area, was paying for 40mbps.
was getting 39 down & 7.8 up.
Switched to Vodafone because they where offering 63mbps.
Currently getting 35 down & 4.8 up.

Yes, had to get Vodafone to give the VDSL login details.
They didn't seem too sure about the VLAN settings took them ages to give me them.
Told me to use BT settings of 2 & 101. Postoffice uses 0 & 101 😅

That doesn't seem right, you should not get significantly different speeds on the various ISP's as they all use Openreach lines. Are those download speeds or sync speeds.

Your max possible speed is dependant on the distance from the cabinet, so the figure of 63Mbs is only if your line can support it and is the average speed a certain number of customers receive.

Broadband suppliers advertise how fast their packages are using 'average speeds'. These give you a r...

I suppose it could be that the modem in the Zyxel is better than the one in the Vodafone router, but I doubt it.

You can see what your line should be capable of here: BT Broadband (btwholesale.com)

.@Jayach My download (not sync) was 53Mbps with VF on THG3000 and is 56Mbps on Zyxel VMG3925-B10C with John Lewis. The traffic status shows no errors and no drops, so at a guess I'd suggest it's the error rate that is the difference. I used to get a lot of errors on the the THG3000.

It's odd that you got many more errors on the THG3000. Maybe the modem in the Zyxel is better than the Vodafone router. But 53 and 56 are not very different. the OP has a difference from 39 to 35 which is a much larger percentage drop. Even worse the upload has gone from 7.8 to 4.8 which is a huge drop.

It will be interesting to see what they get when they start using the Zyxel.
