Slow speeds and frequent dropouts (Vigor 130 modem)

Hello,

My current setup is Vigor 130 modem and Linksys AC1900WRT router running Lede (openwrt).

This setup worked flawlessly with BT.

Since moving over and requesting my PPPoE username and password, it'll connect but I'll get frequent dropouts and slower speeds than my guaranteed minimum.

Checking the status on my modem I get the following:

> vdsl status

Is there a reason why my DS actual rate is so much lower than my attainable rate and is the SNR noise anything to worry about?

Cheers for the help in advance.

At the console on the Vogor modem type "vdsl snr -1".  It'll drop the attainable rate to the real rate that the cabinet is happy at on a VDSL2 connection.  Your actual connection rate probably won't change much.

I'm suspicious that the cabinet is g,fast capable and may be misrepresenting what you can get on a VDSL2 connection

By the way what is your line supposed to be capable of and what plan are you on Superfast 1 or 2?.

Ah, I probably should've included that info sorry!

I'm on Superfast 2 and the min download speed is 70.54 Mbps, the max is 76 Mbps. The min guaranteed is 65.24Mbps.

Thanks for the snr tip, I've set it to -1.

Regardless of the value I set that to, the SNR seems to stay the same. That's after rebooting the modem too.

This is the vdsl status now:

According to openreach the cabinet is g.fast capable.

Do you think this is something I can fix tweaking settings here, or would I need to get in touch with VF direct?

When I first got this setup I did see 70+Mbps with this. I just don't know what's changed.

Thanks for the help so far :Smiling:

Okay, that looks like a fault then!  The SNR values are way too high, if you've previously had download speeds of 70Mbps it would have been with a much lower SNR (probably around 3db).

You can try swapping microfilters or the cable that connected from the wall wart to router, but if that doesn't work, you'll have to bite the bullet and talk to tech support!

Thank you again for the help!

I'll try a few different microfilters, see if that makes any difference.
