Vodafone Ultra Hub DGM4980VDF specs/features/performance

Afternoon all.

I've been looking online for any kind of documentation, performance, features (more like missing features), web interface, but hardly anything is available.

The only thing I've managed to get is the model number from one of VF's setup videos.

This appears to be DGM4980VDF which is manufactured by Technicolor (Vantiva), so I guess it's very similar to the THG3000.

Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks.

There is so little information available, and as you've noticed so little control a lot of us have moved to third party routers (not gonna discuss slurping here - Google it).

If you want performance, security and control you may want to consider using your own router too.

I'm assuming you are in Germany. We don't use that router here, perhaps you would be better trying on https://forum.vodafone.de

Edit: Unless you are referring to the new Pro II hub. Does it not have a model number on it?

Yes, I'm referring to the Pro II router released to the UK market in October 2022. The model number is DGM4980VDF. Apart from the WiFi certification, there is nothing out there.

Hopefully we'll get more clarity from users who signed up for Pro II broadband.

hi

ive got one and so far its not very good......infact i need to contact support to see why my speeds have dropped (wired connection) and the extender wont connect.....overall poor experience

will keep you posted

hi

update on this "upgrade"

the super hub square was not on my app and the only way to get that for me was to contact support, they confirmed they had not set it up their end. after a few minutes i then could see the square and then followed the onscreen instructions and it worked without issue. as for the speed issue.....i am still testing, im not sure if they needed something on back end but on wired the speeds appear to be back to normal and i am testing wifi to make sure speeds are as good as old router ..... so overall 50% of the way there

Just a heads up, Vantiva is the new name for Technicolor - ie it's not a new supplier!

Pro II user here.

The router has very basic settings, for your average user, you probably don't need the settings that come with third-party routers but average users probably aren't paying for gigabit fibre with a wifi 6e mesh router, booster and 4g backup, most people probably don't even understand what wifi 6e is. I hope they release a firmware update to give us power users more options to play with.

The wifi on these routers is pretty decent though so I have my old third-party router (wifi 5) connected directly to the internet with its wifi turned off then I've connected that to the VF router via ethernet and turned off the DHCP on the VF router so it acts as a wifi 6e access point instead of a router. The VF router thinks it has no internet connection (flashing red light) but it does have internet and it's able to transmit most of the gigabit connection throughout my home. The problem I have is if i'm saturating that full gbit connection, my old router is maxed on its CPU but it does give me the full load so it'll do for now.

As for the 4G backup, that little box works on my laptop anywhere, it doesn't need the router to work so i essentially have unlimited 4g on my laptop wherever I go.

The router is a decent piece of hardware, but just like the previous model it's crippled by the software. I think Vantiva (Technicolor) ships a locked version of OpenWrt.

If you right click and select Inspect in your browser on the WiFi settings page, you'll see loads of java scripts that hide the features from the webpage (eg. channel selection).

So the options are there, but hidden by the "experts".

It's a shame we can't customise it as we see fit.

I seem to have issues with my FireTV 4K Max on 5Ghz, the speed I'm getting is not even close to what I had with THG3000.

Also, my phone is the only device connected to 6E and it's rebooting every time I walk out of range (eg. leave the house).

Devices which are a bit further away seem to hold onto 2.4Ghz and get terrible speeds, instead of selecting a free channel on 5Ghz.

So far I have mixed feelings about it, it's nice that's future proofed but lacks any sort of customisation.
