cisco 1941 with Cisco EHWIC Multimode VDSL2 and ADSL2/2+ not getting a connection

i've got a 1941 cisco router with a Cisco EHWIC Multimode VDSL2 and ADSL2/2+

Both are on the compatability list.

I searched on here for using it to find hhow to connect to vodaphone broadband and found and article. i simply copied it and changed the login details to match my own. however it does not work. when i try to bring up the atm interface it comes up with.

(atm_vc_is_bridged_dot1q)ATM: VC with handle 0x0 not found

this  message is show even when atm is administratevly shutdown

I don't think it gets as far as the authentication part. here's the relevent config settings and logs info.

sernames and passwords hidden th protect the innocent.

What am i missing?

Okay not equipment that I'm AT ALL familiar with, so I'm going to play Captain Obvious here:

Have you fully reset the router, because the first obvious thing to leap out is that the router appears to be in tunnelling 802.1Q mode (tunnelling to where)! Generally most of the other settings should work on their defaults, the exceptions being the addition of the VLAN tag being set to 101, and the possibility of needing to set up some local network routing.

it needs 802.1q to handle the vlan tag. as for routing it doesn't yet. i've not set that bit up. i'm trying to get the router itself to talk to the vodophone vdsl connection.  wants that's setup i'll set up the routing and pat.

Hey @fjbarton59, thanks for getting in touch. Have you contacted our Broadband team to get your PPPoE username and password, in order to use a third party router?

yes i've got that. the problem seems to be on the atm interface. the errors shows even before i've bought up the interface. I'm wondering if it doesn't like a shared connection as the existing broadband router is still plugged in.  and i can't unplug it until the office is pretty much empty.

Hey @fjbarton59, you've mentioned that you've still got the Vodafone router plugged in, is that correct?

If so, you can only have one router plugged in at a time.

I'd love to be able to assist you in setting up the Cisco device but we're not certified to do so.

I'd suggest trying to find further information online or maybe someone else on the community may be able to help.

I hope you're able to get this sorted

looking at your logs the router is syncing but not talking to the ppp

Vlan ID - 101

Username  - ******@broadband.vodafone.co.uk

Password - ********

PPPoE

MTU Size : 1492

just make sure the above is correct and you not missed a letter out of the password or username think rest of the setting auto detect when your router talk to the fibre dslam

thank you all the problem is solved. Setting the mtu to 1492 and making sure the router was the only thing plugged into the socket solved the problem.

see below

interface ATM0/0/0
mtu 1492
no ip address
shutdown
no atm ilmi-keepalive

thank you all.

i'm so glad i could help you . it's just a real shame that's vodafone staff moderator MarkF could not just give you the answer instead of being unhelpful again. (i don't know why vodafone pay him) after all you asked what are the setting , and the answer is the setting are the same for all the router it's down to the isp (the setting page will be laid out difference but the setting are still the same , eg

vodafone setting are

Vlan ID - 101

Username  - ******@broadband.vodafone.co.uk

Password - ********

PPPoE

MTU Size : 1492

SSE BROADBAND ARE

vlan id -101

username ********@ssebroadband.co.uk

password *********

PPPoE

MTU Size : 1500

rest of the setting auto detect when the router and the dslam are negotiating with each other

i would put a complaint in to there complaints team after all you had downtime which vodafone should  compensate you for

the complaint team are really helpfuly and understanding you can ring or email them at https://www.vodafone.co.uk/help-and-information/complaints
