Content control

Hi I recently went to hollandandbarrett.com and was surprised when I got content control age restriction. Why? Can someone tell me about what’s adult about Holland and Barrett. I think it’s pathetic I’m coming up 52 and being treated as if I’m under 18

Hi @Kevin6062

It may need whitelisting or something similar if a website is being blocked.

The Social Media Team here will take a look and feed this back I’m sure.

Content Control is in place to add a layer of protection.

It can be removed either by customer service or by you via the tutorial available in here > How-do-I-switch-off-content-control-on-my-mobile-device.

The method described on the Support page definitely works - somehow, I found that Content Control had been reactivated on my account a couple of years ago. My DoB, name and address were already in my account (I'd recommend adding them if they aren't already there), so I just had to make a notional purchase for £0 using my credit card, and Content Control was lifted within minutes. I'm not convinced that a debit card would necessarily do the trick, as they can be held by under-18s, but still worth trying if you don't have a credit card.

The oddest companies end up on the Content Control list, and have to be whitelisted. In that case, I'd imagine that a web crawler found a term such as "natural remedies" and assumed the worst!

@Kevin6062 Thanks for bringing this to our attention - we're sorry for any inconvenience caused.

I've raised this with our Specialist team, who'll take a look into it.

If you'd like to remove content control, please see @BandOfBrothers post for help on how to do this.

@Kevin6062 Our support contact has confirmed there's no block in place by our content control on that website.

There has been no change to this since 2012 and he's also tested this on 20 different servers and they're all working correctly.

He says it's likely to have been a technical glitch at the time which blocked you from accessing this site.

This can be resolved by turning the device off and on again, as when your data connection is being established, this will reset to the correct settings.

You shouldn't see this issue again after restarting your device, please let us know how you get on 🙂
