£20 Default on Vodafone bill from 2015 (that I did not know about) stopping mortgage application.

We recently had an offer on a house accepted. Despite having a good credit rating our mortgage was rejected because of a £23 default on an old Vodafone contract of mine that ended in 2015. I had no idea about this I'm a doctor in the nhs it is crazy that Vodafone would do this to people. I have seen that this has been a regular issue for a lot of customers but would really appreciate some advice on what to do next.

I appreciate how damaging a default can be @Guevelb

Speak to the Vodafone Social Media Teams via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries as they have a dedicated Credit File Specialist Team who can investigate to see if this was warranted.

If it is then it will stay on your File for 6years.

Paying the amount looks better as then it shows as settled on your credit file.

What we see sometimes is a direct debit set up is cancelled by the contact owner before they receive a sorry your leaving letter and a £0 bill which confirms all is paid up as it can take Vodafone 2 to 4 weeks to generate the final bill.

Vodafone are not required to let a person know they are adding a default.

Hi @Guevelb

Certainly agree this is ridiculously crazy.  Hardly going to make you want to be a Vodafone customer again.

Raise a complaint by following this link: How to complain to Vodafone

followed by going to the Communications Ombudman and let them deal with Vodafone.
