Default against credit

Vodaphone put a default against my account for the amount of £2840.59. I Disputed this amount and was not listening to by Vodafone. I then went to the financial ombudsman. They found out that after looking at evidence my account should have been for the sum of £1897.18. It was agreed that Vodafone would amend my account to this amount with a further hundred pounds deducted as compensation taking the balance down to £1797.18 yet this has not been amended. The default has not been removed either. This was done in error at the wrong amount. I am a single mum working in the NHS My credit rating has now been badly affected even know this was a Vodafone error Trying to charge An extra thousand pounds without listening to concerns raised until the ombudsman got involved.

Vodaphone still not removing default what can I do

I appreciate from personal experience how damaging a default can be on a Credit File @Reeweir1984

Vodafone I agree have to be correct about the money amount when requesting payment for monies owed and thus I can see have given a £100 goodwill gesture as an apology,  and this should now be amended on your Credit File and Vodafone systems for you to pay off as you can either in one chunk or in installments.

However you agree the monies were owed and I assume Vodafone had contacted you to request payment.

As monies were owed you may find that the default was warranted and would remain on your Credit File for 6 years.

Paying off the amount owed would change the status of the default on your file from outstanding to settled.

I totally understand and appreciate you thought the original amount was wrong and disputed it which you were well within your rights to do so and well done for getting the correct amount given.

However what we advise if a person can is to settle an amount first to stop defaults and late payment markers and then request a refund. This is completely upto the individual concerned. It's much easier getting a refund than having a default removed.

There is more information in this link about adding a Notice of Correction. I would suggest speaking with Experian to see if your case warrants such a notice.

Default-on-your-Credit-File-How-to-add-a-Notice-of-Correction.

We also have a Vodafone Social Media Team here who read all posts. Perhaps let them catch up with your thread and they maybe able to refer your case to their Credit File Specialist Team for due consideration and investigation and look into checking why the amount owed has not changed.

I wish you all the best with this situation.

Vodaphone wasn’t contacting me back when raised issues about amount on the bill which is why I went to the financial ombudsman. That’s the only reason it got recalculated. I’ve paid chunks off but still not correction on file. It annoys me that because I disputed the incorrect amount they put a something against my file. Only to be proven that it was an error and give me £100 good will gesture and not remove their default which shouldn’t have been for that amount and of was for the correct amount would have been paid

I totally agree the default on your Credit File should show the correct amount owing although the actual default may still be warranted and remain for 6 years even tho the amount needs correcting as you did owe an amount which went to the extreme of a default being placed.

I assume Vodafone would have used all the communication channels at their disposal which can include debt collection agencies to ask for the funds as I assume the direct debit was cancelled.

However they are not required to pre warn a person they are adding a default to their Credit File.

Let the team here catch up to give you some official information.
