Default charge added to credit report.

I've had a default added to my credit report which is now preventing me from applying for a mortgage. I never got contacted by Vodafone by phone, letter or email. Vodafone say they sent letters and emails but I didn't receive anything. I got a letter from a debt company in may. I paid it and then in June I get a default added. I'm really angry and upset. The letter from the debt agency days if I paid it it would prevent a default. So why was there one added a month later? I need this removed.

Hi @Fayechopz

If Vodafone feel they've exhausted means of collecting money owed then they can without any warning to you add a default that lasts 6 years.

Paying the debt changes the status of the default from Outstanding to Settled however the default remains.

If you would like this investigating then you'll need to contact the Vodafone Social Media Teams via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries.

I'd suggest to use Twitter and link back to your thread here including your forum username so your not having to repeat yourself.

They'll collate your information and your reasons why the default isn't warranted and have their Credit File Specialist Teams investigate.

I wish you all the best with this situation.

Ok great thanks. I just think it's unfair to add a default when clearly I was never contacted about it. I just need this removing urgently. I paid what was owed. So why apply a default charge a month later?

I know how damaging a default can be from my own personal experiences @Fayechopz

Once Vodafone get to the stage of not being able to collect monies which is sometimes because the account holder has cancelled their Direct Debit too soon then the next stage is Collection Agencies and the Default.

As I mentioned Vodafone are not required to forwarn a person they are adding a default onto a Credit File.

When a person realises that a default has been placed and they then pay the amount then this does look better on the Credit File as it's status changes from Outstanding to Settled which looks better as I mentioned in my reply but the default remains for 6 years and then drops off automatically.

Vodafone do have a duty of care to add a default to show others conducting a Credit Search that issues have happened with the person financial activities etc.

The Credit File Specialist Teams via the Vodafone Social Media Teams will investigate once you've made contact and let you know if the default is warranted or not.

Good luck.
