Default error _ urgent

Hi there I have just been rejected for a mortgage and upon further investigation I have found out that it due to a default from Vodafone!

To get you up to speed-

I had been a customer for 6 years for phone contracts (always over £35) and with my last contract I had many issues with phone and no signal.

I went to the east kilbride branch on 7 different occasions and was met with the most appalling customer service.  3 times the systems were apparently down and couldnt do anything. Every time I went in the staff were on their phones or chatting and it was a real effort for them to come and deal with any customers.

I tried to pay off my contract so I could upgrade early as this was cheaper than getting phone fixed and I was told I couldn't do so. So I waited for three months paying for a phone that didn't work.

It came time to renew and upgrade my phone and yet again met with poor customer service. I was being quoted £25 more than two other phone providers . When I queried this and asked if that was the best deal considering I had been a customer for 6 years and not once missing a payment. I was told only new customers get discounted deals and that was the price .

I decided to leave Vodafone . However I received debt letters from debt agencies saying I need £151?? I wrote to Vodafone twice and sent recorded delivery however not once did I receive any replies. I have since then paid this bill only because it was causing my sever stress being hounded by debtors.

Now the fact the this has been defaulted although there was a dispute about the bill is shocking. The fact after 6 years of being a loyal customer I have been rejected for my first home mortgage is just sickening.

I have tried to call but get met with, press1 press 4 please email... and still no further forward.

If someone could contact me asap it would be a great help.

Hi @Colindannii

I know from personal experience how damaging a default can be on a Credit File.

In which way did you "decide to leave" Vodafone ?

By giving 30 days notice ?

By asking for a Pac and giving that to another UK Network.

I'm asking as a Contract does not simply end after it's 2 year term but I stead drops onto a rolling contract

Also a contract has two important dates within it.

The end of 2 year term and the upgrade date which is usually before the end of term.

What stage was your contract at when you decided to leave ?

Did you leave your Direct Debit in place until Vodafone sent you the final bill which takes approx 2-4 weeks which is followed by a sorry your leaving letter and a £0 bill which then confirms account cancellation and everything is paid up ?

If a person closes down their Direct Debit too early and Vodafone cannot take the monies owed then they can after exhausting means of recovering payment involve a Debt Collection Company which I see from your post they have done

When the issue has reached that far this can come hand in hand with Vodafone applying the default - to which they are not required to warn you about.

As you've paid Off the debt I assume you agree it was owed.

By paying the debt the status on your Credit File would change from Outstanding to Settled which looks better on your Credit File.

However when a default is warranted it will remain in place for 6 years.

We do have a Vodafone Social Media Team here who read all posts and have a Credit File Specialist Team who can take a look at this for you so please let them catch up with your thread.

Thanks for your reply.

yes I sent them a letter about wishing to end my contract with them, but didn't recieve any reply.

I went ahead and cancelled the direct debit which is obviously where this issue has stemmed from.

I paid the debt because the amount of debt letters and calls I was recieving was really stressing me out. I've never had that before.

I definitely think there has been an error in information and communication somewhere and somehow it's ended up in this mess. To be honest I thought Vodafone didn't reply because it was a complaint letter and I did let rip at the service of their staff. 😕

The thing that got was the £151 ... it was a random amount . Had it been one months at £45 I would have thought it was maybe from the cancellation notice period and not just a complete error.

Im just completely sick at how you can be a perfect customer for 6 years and because of this I now can't get my first home. I may as well have got everything on contract and not paid a damn thing because my credit score is just as ruined for one months unpaid bill.😡😡

Thanks again

and if anyone has the direct number for someone who can deal with this that would be very helpful. The number the chat advisor gave was for callcredit and they were as useful as a chocolate teapot
