Default on account

Hi,

To my suprise I was rejected for a mortgage this week due to a default on my account from vodafone which I did not know about.

I was a vodafone customer from 2009-2015 and paid my bills on time. In March 2014 I went to Australia for 6 months. Before i left I spoke to vodafone to cancel my contract which I was told had been completed. As such I cancelled my direct debit and went to Australia.

Upon my return I discovered bills for an unpaid account for a contract I beleived to be cancelled. I ended up paying £106 to vodafone as I was a) worried about poor credit, b) told this was the only option to resovlve the issue.

This week I rang up customer services who advised my account was an old account (Crystal system) and took us over an hour to be able to access my records and history. Unfortunately there were no records of me cancelling my contract - which is incredibly furstrating as I cancelled it.

This issue is now stopping me getting a mortgage for a flat and impacting my lfie - 6 years after an unpaid bill for a contract i thought was cancelled and did not know about (as all corrspondance was sent to my uk address whilst i was in australia)

I paid the bill with my first pay cheque once back in the UK - even though I aruged I shouldnt have to as I had cancelled the contract.

I now feel helpless and devastated I can't get a mortgage for until the default falls off my account in 6 months time.

Has anyone had similar situations? I believe whoever cancelled my account didnt record it correctly and I am now paying the price 6 years later.

I'd apprecaite any urgent help / advice anyone can offer.

The Vodafone Social Media Teams via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries  have a dedicated Credit File Specialist Team who can look into your case.

However if a default is found to be warranted it would remain on your Credit File for 6 years from the default date.

Paying off the amount does look better on your Credit File File however as it would show as settled instead of outstanding @mklemperer

I wish you all the best with this situation.
