I have now been informed I have a default on my credit file from a file payment due to Vodafone. I have subsequently paid this but, the default will remain on my credit file for 6 years. This is the only debt I've ever had and this will prevent me from getting a mortgage with my partner (which we are in the proves of saving for). I did not know I was owed this as no correspondence since I ended the contract in February until it had gone to debt collectors. This is causing mush distress to myself and my partner. Have tried to call Vodafone who said this will remain on my file, even though I've pleaded. Any help would be appreciated

What we sometimes see is that a person cancels their direct debit too soon after cancelling their Vodafone contract and monies however small are still owing.
If Vodafone feel they've exhausted means of collection they can without informing the account holder apply a default that last 6 years on their credit file and engage debt collection.
It's best to pay any monies owed so the default changes from Outstanding to Settled.
You can ask the Vodafone Social Media Teams via Contact-us-for-account-specific-queries if they can investigate and ask their dedicated Credit File Specialist Team to look at the default.
Be aware they may say it was warranted so stands.

Thanks. I have paid the debt but, received no notice of this until it went to debt collection
