Hi! Has anyone else received a message from Footbox.tv saying that they are now signed up to a £4 a week debit on their account???? I don’t know if this is a scam as I want to reply to stop it (but haven’t yet) I will contact Vodafone later to make sure this isn’t the case! Just wondered if anyone else has had this experience??

Yes, like a few other companies they put there adverts under kids videos on YouTube so your little one presses the link and you are charged straight away. I had murder with Vodafone last time it happened for letting these companies get away with doing it and payments coming straight out of my phone account.

Surely cant be legal.

Last week I found Footbox payments of £4 had been added to my account since December. I rang Vodafone who gave me the number to call & receive a refund. I contacted the Company & I have only been offered £16.00 (they’ve had Over £80) there is nothing I can do about it. They have sent the ‘Click’ information to me. Apparently in 52 Seconds I had clicked on the site. registered & confirmed registration. I deleted emails & texts from the Company as I thought they were Spam. I was told I should have Texted Stop. I feel completely Conned. I will spread the word wherever possible. I know I did not register intentionally as I hate Football with a Passion. Vodafone have since put a Block on all Premium Services at my request.

Sadly I’m the same. I’ve never watched a football match in my life so when I saw the text messages I skim read and thought they were spam asking me to sign up and quickly deleted. “Are U” versus “U Are” - the cynic in me wonders if the title case and abbreviations aren’t aiming to achieve just that.  They’ve offered £16 too, but had £32 from me so I’m going to tease this out a bit.  If I have to have my money back through their customer service time & poor reviews so be it.

It’s useful they provided me with the time and date I “signed-up”... I was running an ultramarathon at the moment (and have the GPS recording) and so one can only assume as I jogged along with sweaty hands some inadvertent taps were what got me when I pulled out phone to check the route 😂 🤣

I aslo have been stung with an unwitting subscription for Footbox TV. My Vodafone contract finishes in 2 days' time and I am seriously considering terminating it on the basis of this scam. I wonder how many people have not checked their bills and are paying £16 per month for a service they neither wanted nor knew they had signed up to?

My beef, however, is with Vodafone, who clearly have wrapped this subscription into their monthly bill, hiding the fact that it exists. This is simply not correct on so many levels. Vodafone, have to take responsibility for this too. A full refund was given to me without query, which I appreciated. However, I see this to further demonstrate the point that Vodafone knows this practice to be scurrilous. I will be phoning to make a formal complaint and am seriously considering taking this further still. Mmmmmm.

I appreciate where you're coming from @ETH, with that said, we can't be held liable for all of our customers' supscriptions as these opt-in/opt-out features. I get that you've unknowingly subscribed to this service and I'm delighted to hear you've received your refund. The third company charge Vodafone for the subscription therefore the customer is billed for the service, just like how M-Pay on the PlayStation store works - Vodafone don't profit from this. If you've any suggestions on how we can improve in the future, please let me know.

Hi DaneB,

Many thanks for your clarification. My point, however, remains the same. When Vodafone reads the number of complaints around this issue, surely you need to improve your practices and help your customers better, beyond the third-party argument? It is clear to me reading the forum messages that a number of customers are unwittingly signing up to a service that is of no interest. I guess a simple FOI request would reveal how many customers, have made representation and complained?

You say that Vodafone is not benefitting from this service? As a piece of transactional economics, this may well be the case. However, your brand, in my view is damaged by association. I'm sure Vodafone has a choice in the matter.

@ETH

I’m on Three and have had same response, it’s a wider issue that is probably something that needs dealing centrally.

While, as a private company, Vodafone Is subject to FOI law, I wonder if OFCOM collates any such data?
