I want to take my work number with me when I leave. My employer is saying I can but I need to pay out the contract which has 20 months to run ! I wondered if it would be possible to change the number so they can keep the contract but somehow move the old number then to a payg sim ?
Any ideas ?

Unless the contract is on corporate ask your employer to complete and submit the form below to transfer the number to your name in personal. This will also mean you will be responsible for the 20 months remaining on the airtime part of the contract.
https://www.vodafone.co.uk/vodafone-uk/transfer-of-ownership/form/
What you would like to do by changing the number won't be possible.

Thanks I don't want to take the contract as it has 20 months to run and is £34 a month with no handset, or so they say !! Any other ideas ?

There is no other way. The contract is in the company name and if they ported in another number they would in effect be cancelling the contract, as ported in number would override the current number you wanted would be lost on the process.
Unfortunately it would be an expensive 20 months.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know how much cheaper it would be for early termination?

Number of months remaining as far as I understand. Unfortunately, there is no cheap option when the number is 'in contract '.
