Pay default - credit file

Good morning Community,

I realised I have a default on my credit file which apparently is due to come off next month - I am applying for a mortgage now so keen on getting rid of it and paying it off anyway. What is the best course of action? As the default is almost 6 years old I doubt anyone in Customer Service will have access to my data - I am struggling to find my old Vodafone details myself....

Edited:
Called Customer Service who insists that no details can be found and that they won't be able to put me through another department without them - they checked Name, Surname, Address all to no avail. I don't have the account number as I have a feeling that the email address that I was using was also closed by myself a couple of years ago. Surely the debt must be recorded somewhere alongside the default notice?

I appreciate your situation in regards to applying for a mortgage but Vodafone wouldn't remove a default early if it was warranted in the first place @bella91

It should naturally drop off after the 6 year duration.

If for some reason it didn't then Experian should be able to advise and help you too.

The Vodafone Social Media Team here reads all posts and replies to threads needing such help and has a dedicated Credit File Specialist Team who can look into a case but again wouldn't remove a default early in my opinion.

Hi @bella91

The default may reach it's term next month but you still owe the money.

As it's been almost 6 years Vodafone the debt would have long been sold on to a collection agency. The first place to look is your credit file, this should give some indication of the agency where the debt is registered, this will enable you to liaise direct with the agency to clear the debt.  Credit reference agencies are also there to help and will be able to give good advise.
