Removal of a default on my credit report

Hi There,

I'm having an issue with a default affecting my credit score, an unkown debt with vodafone was sold to Lowell Portfolio without any communication with myself. Initially i set up the account for my ex girlfriend back in August 2011 and we agreed to change the account holder to her, for some reason this didn't happen - she continued to pay the bills all the way up to November 2015. At this point she cancelled the direct debit without informing me, neither did vodafone, therefore i had no idea of any missed payments or defaults until a letter from Lowell Portfolio came through the door around June 2017. I Payed the debt immediately, just like i would have if vodafone had of contacted me before selling the debt. I've been in contact with Vodafone customer services - i was able to speak to a manager who agreed that vodafone had not communicated with myself about any missed payments/a direct debit being cancelled. The vodafone manager (Lindsey) was very helpful and couldn't apologise enough for the lack of communication. I was informed that an email had been sent to "agency liason"? to request for the default to be removed, although, i was told this would take weeks for a response.

I'm trying to apply for a mortgage (which is the only reason i'm aware of the default affecting my credit score) so i need this sorting ASAP, as it's putting my life on hold. Is anyone able to give me contact details for the credit file team please?

Thanks a lot,

Lee

Hi @Lee2903

When a change of ownership is done, it will be subject to a credit check for the new contract owner, when completed you will receive communication from Vodafone to let you know you have no further responsibility towards the contract and repayments.  Unlike banks and credit card companies mobile companies are not tied into the same credit regulations and are under no obligation to inform before placing a default and reporting against a credit file.

From what you have written, your ex girlfriend did not accept the contract and the change was never competed.  Unfortunately, with the contract remaining in your name, you would still have responsiblity towards the contract and making sure the payments were kept up to date.

However, give the Team time to get to the thread, they will be able to see what has happened.

Hi,

Thanks for your response, the issue is not actually the fact that the contract wasn't signed over to a new owner - i know this didn't happen. I'm fully aware that i'm responsible for the account, but vodafone are responsible to inform me of any account changes. The issue is the lack of communication from vodafone, and not giving me the chance to pay any debt before selling it on - which i've been told that their procedure is to send out some form of communication, whether it be a message to the phone number, a letter or email. I recieved nothing, and vodafone have confirmed they have no record of communication. Is there not a number i can call directly to get this resolved, it's an incorrectly listed default.

Thanks again,

Lee

Can someone please advise a contact number?

@Lee2903 I'm sorry there's been some kind of break down in communication here regarding the contract. We're happy to investigate the account activity and determine what actions can be taken, to help amend the credit file impact.

I've sent you some instructions via private message to get in contact, please follow these steps and our credit file specialist within the team will get in touch.
