de-activating my number

Hello,

I want to de-activate (close) my Vodafone UK number that I was when I was student in London.

I am still paying debts as the number is still active. I am now in my hometown, and cannot call Vodafone and reach anyone for this processing. Is there any possibility to de-activate my UK number through mail or any other way?
