Unlocking

Unlocking phone abroad

I have requested my phone to be unlocked. The phone is abroad and I received an email saying it’s been unlocked. But it still doesn’t work with a local SIM card. Why is this?

Hi @Rumina94 sometimes after that email has been sent we have seen on here it can take up to 30 days for apple to complete the unlock even though it says it’s done. Keep trying your new sim over the coming days.

As your using an iPhone then it will unlock while abroad.

You need to use a activated alternative sim card and with some iPhones also hook up to iTunes.

An iPhone is not unlocked via inputting a Nuc {unlocking code} like other phone makes are, but instead is unlocked remotely by Apple themselves and their Database.

The Vodafone Network lets a person know by email it's unlocking has been requested to Apple after accepting your Nuc online unlock request which I see they have done.

Please Note > The iPhone isn't actually usually unlocked to all networks at this stage.

Apple then process the Networks request and occasionally this can take approximately up to another 30 days sometimes from Vodafone's email to complete an unlock request made by a Network.

To complete the process please Periodically insert an active Alternative Networks Sim Card in the iPhone with hooking upto iTunes is only typically needed if its an iPhone 4 or older although it wouldn't harm to do so.

From the iPhone 5 onwards there's not normally the need to hook up to iTunes to complete the process.

When it's unlocked you should see a pop up message and the alternatives Networks name will show in the iPhone's status bar.

Thank you. Would the unlocking still process even thought my phone is abroad? Or does it have to be in the UK?

iPhones are the exception and will unlock while abroad as they do not unlock via inputting a code like other phones but instead are released from apples locked status database.

Thank you. So I’ve received the email saying my phones been unlocked. Is it now going to take another 30 days to process? As local SIM cards are still not working.

30 days is approximate.

It can be faster as it just depends on how fast Apple is now.

Any non Vodafone UK sim card will do as long as it's a working sim card.

Again hooking up to iTunes can help.

I am trying with a Bangladesh SIM card but I guess I’ll keep trying every day until it works. I just assumed it should start working since I received a confirmation email. Thank you for you help, much appreciated.
