Sure Signal just exploded!

Had my Sure Signal since Friday, was sitting watching TV when it flashed bright white and made a very loud bang, tripping all the circuit breakers. Nothing was being done to it at the time and nothing was being used though the pass-through plug. Will be going to the Vodafone shop tomorrow but wanted to know if anyone has had a similar experience? Will be getting my money back instead of a replacement if that's the case, if we hadn't been here it could have started a fire!

Hi cupsandstring,

We’ve not come across this before.

Please take it into store so they can take a look.

Thanks,

Gemma

Thanks, good to know it's not a widespread problem, will take it in this evening. I'm sure it's just a manufacturing fault, these things happen from time to time.

Vodafone really need to escalate this - there is another report on the forum of an exploding SS:

Hi,

My wife and I came back to a defrosted freezer and fridge after the weekend. I noticed that SureSignal was not working yesterday so opened it up to find burnt components inside, so it seems like another incident of a SureSignal unit failing. Why its designed to rely on the house fuse rather than an internal fuse seems like a design weakness.

I think there's a issue with these units and are a potential fire hazard. Vodafone, this is not a one off!

Thanks,

Martin

Hi Martin

Please see my extensive post regarding this issue and contact Trading Standards and BBC Watchdog.

Apparently, according to Vodafone, the way it fails and that it blows the main fuses in CU is perfectly normal and safe and the cause would have been likely to be you dirty mains spikes.

Contact these bodies and if you feel like it, write to thier CEO.

Oh.. don't forget to claim for the contents of the fridge under consequential damages of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 or Consumer Rights Act 2015 depending on when you purchased it.

It is important to report all failed SureSignal V3 using the links below to:

If you are going to give people advice make sure it's accurate. The sale of Goods Act is no longer law.

I've just had my v3 explode on me and it was plugged into a UPS which cleans the power so it can't be blamed on mains power surges.

Hi

If you don't have a respnse here,  tag a comment on my main thread on this subject.

My V3 from mid 2015 blew up last night. Nothing plugged into the passthrough power, it had error lights on the front, I unplugged, plugged back in and BANG! Visible electrical arcing in the device and smoke coming out of it. It now rattles internally. It was plugged into a UPS device so clean power. In going it blew house RCD breakers and a 13A fuse in the UPS. Vodafone are replacing FoC and I have reported to Trading Standards.
