Are New Ipad's locked to Vodafone

Hi I seem conflicting responses about locking of iPads so posting here can someone from Vodafone please confirm.

If an iPad is bought from Apple (unlocked) and then a Vodafone Sim is used either pay as you or monthly would this lock the iPad to the Vodafone network.

I'd really appreciate a confirmation.

If you buy direct from the  store at full retail price then their iPads and iPhones don't lock out. I always buy mine this way from  because of this.

I'm sure one of the Vodaphone Tech Team can further clarify.

iPads will always remain unlocked UNLESS you purchase a Vodafone contract at the same time, then they will lock to Vodafone,
