Solution

Problems with setup VSS1

Hi,

I'm having problems registering a VSS1 that was given to me.  It is connected to the internet via a BT Home Hub 3 (not BT infinity)  I have sucessfully registered it to my vodafone number, and have assigned 4 mobile phone numbers to it.  I have reset the basestation and all that happens is the top light (power) is on and the @ light is sometimes on and sometimes flashing.  Lights 3 and 4 dont come on.

I have left the unit to sync overnight and after some fiddling i have left it for about 3 hrs this morning but still no joy. I have gone through the troubleshooting guide/  I have enabled VPN Port Clamping but that still didnt help.

Does anyone have any hints?

Tech team - is there anything you guys can do?  does it need to be manually re synched from your end?  If it helps my serial number is 21230728608.

Thanks in advance.

Hi flarkey1,

I’ve re-synced this for you today.

Please complete this process by performing a factory reset as follows:

-Hold in the reset button until all lights go solid

-Pull the power lead out with the reset button still pushed in

-Continue to hold down the reset button and reconnect the power lead

-Wait for all lights to come on and then release the reset button

If you’re still having problems after doing this, please try the following:

Manually configure your Router to allow port-forwarding.
In most cases, routers support a system called "Universal Plug-n-Play" or UPnP, which will setup port-forwarding for you automatically. If you have a complicated network setup, or a complex router, you may be required to enter these settings in manually.

The following details list the IP addresses and Port Numbers that need to be forwarded to your Sure Signal's internal IP address. For detailed instructions on how to do this, we recommend either contacting your ISP or Router Manufacturer, or referring to the Default Guide for your particular make and model, over at http://portforward.com

Destination IP Addresses:
212.183.133.177
212.183.133.178
212.183.133.179
212.183.133.181
212.183.133.182
212.183.131.128/26

Ports and Protocols:
Port 50 - TCP/IP
Port 4500 - UDP
Port 500 - UDP
Port 123 - UDP

Port 8 - TCP/IP

Port 1723 (BT Customers only) - TCP/UDP

Please note that in the above list of IP addresses, the notation "212.183.131.128/26" means the complete range of IP addresses between 212.183.131.128 and 212.183.131.191

Your Router will also need to be able to assign the Sure Signal with a DNS Server address via DHCP.

Check your MTU settings

Log into your admin page for your router

Find the location of the MTU field. This varies depending on the make and model of router so you’ll need to hunt around for it.

Change the value of the MTU size to 1500 if this is allowed by your router

Log out of the router, this will usually result in a reboot.

Thanks,

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

Thanks for that.  I have tried all that you suggested in the troubleshooting guide.  I have reset my SureSignal V1 and restarted my BT HomeHub3 router.  I now have the SureSignal power light on constantly and the @ light on contstantly but no 'tick' light and no phone light. I can see that the router is assigning the SureSignal with an IP address.  I have implemented the port forwarding settings but nothing changed.  I have tried fiddling with the UPNP settings and firewall but the changes dont seem to have any effect.  The only thing I havent been able to do is chnage the MTU, but I think the default for the HomeHub3 is 1500 anyway.

Is there anything else I can do?  Are you able to check if your system can see the SureSignal?

If it helps, here's my traceroute.

Hi flarkey1,

The Sure Signal has connected overnight with our systems, so has this now started working?

If not, we're aware of issues affecting some Home Hub users and we're working with BT to get this sorted. I'm still keen to check anything else which might be getting in the way in case that's not affecting you, though.

Have you tried Mac499's suggestion here to see if this helps?

Also, you may need to make sure the following IP ranges are allowed on the router and firewall:

212.183.133.177-179

212.183.133.181-182

212.183.131.128-191

88.82.13.177-179

88.82.13.169-171

88.82.13.183

These should be picked up automatically, but it's best to check.

Dave

Hi dave,

Thanks for the detailled response.  I am glad to hear that the sure signal was seen by your system.

I tried Mac499's suggestion, but still no success. I dont think the BT HH3 allows you to enable particular ports for the firewall.  I have tried just about everything and just about every system configuration on my router but still nothing.

Can you advise anything else?  And can you confirm that you can still see my SureSignal from your system???

I'd also like to hear more about what you are doing with BT and particularly when you think you might have a solution. It sounds like there may be a conflict between the SureSignal and the router.

Hi flarkey1

There’s an update here on the BT Home Hub issue.

Thanks

Simon
