Currently my esim telephone number displays as unknown in phone settings.

Everything works perfectly it's just showing as unknown in there.

I know on physical sims you could manually add the phone number to them on certain devices so it would show properly in settings, is it possible to do the same with an esim?

Not on Android devices no idea about iPhone. It doesn't have any relevance to anything so don't worry about it.

I've manually added my number in the settings as I noticed the same thing. Is the main benefit of adding a number to access equivalent Google FaceTime / iMessage services? I've personally had no issues and I'm having a really positive experience on my Pixel 5 with eSim so far!
