Hello, I’ve been with Vodafone broadband for around maybe a couple of month now. All good until this past week with consistently high ping. Internet speeds etc otherwise good. I’ve did all the checks via Vodafone’s website suggestions etc but everything comes back as ‘fine’ etc. Normal internet usage is fine but online gaming is just rendered as a no go at the minute due to the crazy ping. I will post a screen shot of Speedtest results to see if anyone would be able to help and if it highlights anything m. This is from around 11:30pm at night too, but is often consistent at any time tested. I’m certain in the past with other providers I would normally have below 20 ping.

@Jasesmith16 there will be a short delay until your image is available.

Thanks, for reference the ping is ranging from 144 - 183

You run speedtest, so what's the location of the test server they offer, and how does that relate to your actual location?

Hello Ripshod, the server I’ve been testing it from is 2 miles away from my location. I’ve checked it this morning and it seems low and quite stable, 25 ping with low of 24 and high of 26. Wonder what this could point towards? As I wouldn’t imaging there is a huge demand at 11:30 at night either.

@Jasesmith16 Can you repeat the test from a pc connected to the router by ethernet cable please?

Hello mate, don’t have a PC unfortunately. Only thing I have really is a PS5 which is used with an Ethernet cable. Any other way to test the issue besides PC?

Selecting a local physical location on speedtest.net will often give you worse results.
This is because Vodafone will shunt users around the country. For example, you could be in Cornwall, but Vodafone will route you via the Edinburgh BNG. Despite being in Cornwall, your local location is actually Edinburgh and all your traffic will have to go through there, thus adding latency to your connection.
Speedtest picks your "virtual" location automatically for you and Vodafone does in fact run their own speedtest.net node. Therefore, the speedtests will be accurate.
If you are getting 150ms pings, I'd say you probably have another issue, but lots of people suffer from the BNG routing issue. If speedtest is reporting a location that isn't close to you, you also have the BNG issue on top of whatever else is causing such high pings.

I have been leaving the Speedtest website just pick the best location for me in recent weeks when testing. Speeds are always fine and for most of the day the ping is absolutely spot on (around 18-20ms)… get to the evening time and I am having horrible periods of around 140ms of ping. I’m not massively clued up on things but it’s like the broadband can’t handle the usage in my area? I’ve used all the same devices in the house in both Ethernet and wifi during the day, gets to evening time and all goes pear shaped!

Far from it. a Spot-on ping would be 4-10ms. 18-20ms is a good indication of poor routing to a very distant gateway. You need to look at that
A traceroute to bbc.com would tell us everything about that. Copy/paste the results, images take eons to be moderated.
