Hi,
This request doesn't quite fit the template but I would like to try get some diagnostic info from Vodafone and this appears to be the best bet. Perhaps somebody technical can get in touch? We are after some network logs for troubleshooting connectivity.
We use 1NCE SIM cards for IoT / M2M applications. We have started having problems when devices roam onto Vodafone 2G. PDP contexts (data connections) are being established and then closed very shortly afterwards. We are trying to establish if this is the device or the network making the PDP disconnection requests.
These SIM don't have phone numbers so I have provided the ICCIDs.
1) Does the issue happen in just one location? If so, how far do you have to travel to regain service?
The issue appears to be operator (only Vodafone is affected) AND device/cell site specific. Different devices (of exactly the same type) in the same cell site; or the same device moved to a different cell site; both work fine.
2) What is the full postcode (e.g. ST1 1AA) of where the issue occurs? If you don't want this showing on the Community, add it to your profile here.
Varies.
3) Does the issue occur if you try your SIM card in a different phone?
Not applicable. SIMs are tied to their IMEIs.
4) What errors are seen or heard when the issue occurs?
More detail below
5) Does this happen on 2G, 3G, 4G or all?
2G only.
6) When did you first notice this issue?
The issue emerged in November 2024. Prior to this all was good.
7) Is the issue permanent or intermittent? If intermittent, are there certain times of the day when it occurs?
Permanent.
😎 More info
We also see the following devices; all of the same family; all on Vodafone / 2G; all with reasonable signal and reasonable previous behaviour but not playing nicely today. Numbers are the ICCIDs. The cell sites are those given at the time of initial configuration; not the current cell sites. You should be able to see the current cell sites in your logs (repeatedly trying to establish PDP contexts and then these being torn down again)
We woulld like to know if it is the device or the network that is sending the PDP disconnection request here.

The last device is a Gen2 CMe2100 not Gen3 CMe2100 - these do appear to have different modems and it is plausible that this device is failed hardware rather than belonging to the group above.
The first device to fail was [Removed]. This was repalced with a new one in the same location Removed] and this new one [Removed] is working just fine.
It is the same type of device and from what we can see of these devices is otherwise identical. (all "Gen3" devices appear to have the same modem firmware) and application firmware even if the balance of PCB hardware differs)
[Removed]I have moved to a new location. It now works fine. Still on Vodafone...which suggests that the behaviour could be operator+cell site specific rather than device specific.
Our config logs show this modem hardware/firmware for the device:
Request for config file (full) for Gateway: 0006146003 was successfully made from 10.37.230.219 (BGS5/353606081655141 Rssi/-73 Hardware/R1F Application/3.2.12 Cell/2C1B Configuration/CLDC-1.1 Model/CMe2100 Serial/0006146003 Firmware/REVISION 02.000 Profile/IMP-NG).
Supposedly the Cinterion BGS5 hardware B2 on firmware 1.1 is Vodafone Innovation Lab as is the TC65i on firmware 2.002 (but not the newer 2.0004?)

Hello, @meterpoint. I hope you're well.
I understand that you have some questions about how your devices are connecting to the network. Could you please clarify if you're a Vodafone UK customer? You have included a Vodafone Germany link, and also have mentioned roaming on 2G.

Thanks @Charlotte
We are a (UK) industrial customer using SIMs that roam across all four UK networks. The only troublesome one is Vodafone, and only on 2G, and only with specific devices/cell sites.
We are not a direct Vodafone customer; but indirectly Vodafone are providing the services for these SIMs. The request is of a technical nature (which end of the PDP context decided to terminate it) that only Voadfone are able to access the records for.
I can provide the cell site IDs that they are currently attempting to connect to, and IMEIs of the devices, in addition to the ICCIDs if this is useful?
