Well who'd of thought.......

"Fairy lights could 'slow' wi-fi speeds warns Ofcom"

"Christmas tree lights can slow your wi-fi warns watchdog Ofcom as it releases an app that can check home broadband.
The app samples wireless signals to see if data is flowing uninterrupted from routers to phones and tablets.

The app is released alongside research which suggests wi-fi in six million homes and offices is not running as fast as it could do.
The app also provides tips to help people spot what might be slowing down their wi-fi speed.

Interference could come from other electronic devices such as baby monitors, microwaves or Christmas fairy lights, said Ofcom in a statement."

Update : I tried out the new Ofcom Wifi Checker App last night and find it to be a really good tool.

The graphics are well thought out and the App badge on my iPhone and iPad are quite nice too.

The app is really easy and straightforward to use.

My result was that my WiFi is working without issue. 😎

Just tried the app, it doesn't want to play nicely with my virgin media router.
Not surprised really, nothing plays well with VM... Lol 😄

That's a shame as its a pretty useful tool to have. Any idea what's causing the incompatibility?

Loving the Christmas signature. 👍🏻

Thanks bob1 👍😊

I made the signature Gif myself using Inkscape and ##~##, both open source and free to download programs. 😉

I will leap to the defence of VM. I have been with VM for 10+ years and have never had a problem.

I am on their 100Mbps Broadband which for some strange reason gives me a rock solid  125Mbps and due for a free upgrade to 200Mbps in March. :smileyvery-happy:

I'm currently using Bt Infinity with a Home Hub 5.

Virgin have recently completed works in my neighbourhood so I'm looking into the deals. I'm particularly interested in the no need for a phone line as with my Bt contract I'm required to have a line which I pay for even though I don't choose to use it. (At one point years ago Bt charged me £8 for not using it enough, so I had to ring myself to avoid the charge ! )

Ditto.

Mine are twinkling away causing no issues.

I wonder if it depends on how close they are to the router or if it's in line of sight.
