Update : iOS 9 additions to Battery Features
iOS 9 has introduced a Low Power Mode that when toggled on turns the Battery Meter in the Status Bar Yellow to indicate the feature is activated.
The Low Power mode can reduce Battery drain even further primilary by limiting network activity. Email for example is no longer fetched automatically and background downloads and app refreshes are stopped completely. Other included measures include scaling back animations and screen brightness. This is reported to add approximately 3 hours to your battery time.
Also a new feature in the Battery Setting allows a more detailed insight to see what's using the Battery. Recording since last wake instead of just the past 24 hours or seven days, which should give the user a better self diagnostic tool.
Go to Settings -> Battery -> Battery Usage.
Apps that use background refresh will be highlighted and you can also hit the clock button at the top of the list to view how long each application was using your battery charge.
iOS 9 is also reported to better Operating System Optimisation so increasing the Battery Spec by approximately 1hour.

iPhones don't have a built-in feature to automatically enable Low Power Mode at any battery level. The option is designed to kick in when the battery gets low to preserve power in critical situations. However, you can achieve a similar effect using the Shortcuts app to trigger Low Power Mode automatically at a specific battery percentage you define. Here's how:-
1. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone.
2. Tap the "Automation" tab at the bottom of the screen.
3. Tap the "+" button in the top right corner.
4. Select "Create Personal Automation."
5. Scroll down and select "Battery Level" from the options.
6. Adjust the slider to your desired battery percentage (e.g., 20%, 30%). This sets the trigger for Low Power Mode to activate.
7. Tap "Next."
8. Tap "Add Action."
9. Search for "Set Low Power Mode" and select it from the results.
10. Tap "Next."
11. To ensure the automation runs in the background without prompting you every time, toggle off the switch next to "Ask Before Running."
12. Tap "Done."
This creates an automation that automatically enables Low Power Mode when your battery level reaches the chosen percentage.
