I've recently migrated to digital voice, even though I still rely on a copper wire connection. I presume the idea is that once I have FTTP, the phone will already be digital anyway and they don't want to hold back the VOIP transition while the FTTP rolls out.
Anyway, I am not keen on the vodafone router as I have a custom LAN setup, and replacing the copper line extension means a lot less cabled (I have a proper network with ethernet sockets in every room, so having a copper telephone line running up to my office was just one extra cable).
I did test the vodefone router out of the box just to see if the adapter would work and it sort of does, except that the phone doesn't ring when there's an incoming call, so that's no good. In the circumstances, I decided to ditch the old phone, the VOIP adapter and the vodefone router and simply buy a digital phone. I went for the POLYCOM VVX 250 as it seems to be a professional bit of kit that should support whatever settings vodefone requires.
I have been able to get the following out of customer support:
SIP_LINE 1_USERNAME = voi00...
SIP_LINE1_URI = voi00...
SIP_LINE1_PASSWORD =
SIP_OUTBOUND_PROXY = xbn.Z4.bbvoice.vodafone.co.uk
SIP_REGISTRAR_SERVER = resvoip.vodafone.co.uk
I've been playing around for a bit and cannot get anything to work. I've found a few posts that mention resvoip.vodafone.co.uk but this domain does not resolve to an IP address, initially I thought it was due to me using Google's 8.8.8.8 DNS but even Vodafone's DNS (90.255.255.90) can't resolve either the SIP registrar nor the SIP outbound proxy, and if I can't resolve either domain on my computer I don't see how the phone will either.
Am I missing something here?

I had this issue whenni changed to the new vodafone E6 router is that the router you are using? I had great fun getting to the bottom of the issue but found the solution.

Your actually missing quite a lot.
Firstly the move to VoIP is nothing to do with the FTTP rollout. (although obviously that will require a VoIP connection if you require a home phone)
It's to do with getting ready for the PSTN switch off in 2025.
If your phone isn't ringing when connected to the Vodafone router, it's probably because the adapter you are using doesn't have a "ring" capacitor. Try putting a DSL filter in line with the adapter. It will then probably ring.
You are unlikely to get an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter or VoIP adapter) from anyone other than Grandstand (and possibly Cisco) working, there is a thread all about it, try searching the forum

I'm pretty sure the FTTP rollout is to do with the PSTN switch off, hence the move to VOIP is to do with FTTP as far as I can see?
I have seen a couple of threads that run to hundreds of pages but they've been going on for a while, I was sort of hoping someone might be able to point me to the right configuration details rather than invite me to pull the PSTN phone out of the bin. I've built a device driver before, getting a phone to work can't be that much harder.

After the PSTN switch off, there will still be (some, not many) subscribers without FTTP available, so they will have to be VoIP.
But yes, it's one of those chicken and egg things.

IF this is the new E6 router.... ring the landlines number from your mobile phone. Does the call get disconnected immediately and the landline phone not ring. Next unplug any lines you have connected to either of the phone sockets. Both phone sockets nothing connected. Ring the landline number again. Maybe this time the connection shows as connected on your mobile....

I'm looking for pointers on how to get the Polycom set up, I don't really want the PSTN line nor do I want the vodafone router.

My apologies, I thought you said you tested the vodafone router out of the box and couldn't get an outside line to connect. I obviously mis read that. I wish you luck.

I really don't think it will be possible to use that with Vodafone's VoIP setup, you will need to go with another VoIP supplier.
But, do let us know if you succeed.
