Re: Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950XL

New to the forum, so apologies if I have repeated anything.  I currently have a pay monthly vodafone SIM and have been offered a Lumia 950 XL which I am told is unlocked.


Could you please let me know if my current SIM in the phone which is compatable with the following frequencies?


2G : GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and/or

3G : 850(B5) / 900(B8) / 1700|2100(B4) / 1900(B2) / 2100(B1) and/or

4G : LTE 700(B12) / 700(B17) / 700(B28) / 800(B20) / 850(B5) / 900(B8) / 1700/2100(B4) / 1800(B3) / 1900(B2) / 2100(B1) / 2300(B40) / 2600(B7) / 2600(B38)

Vodafone use these frequencies and Bands. 


Going from the frequencies and bands you state to the ones below it should work as long as the phone is Unlocked to All Networks and isn't an imported phone.


I mention imported because I have come across people who have imported a phone from another country and even though the frequencies and bands look to be Ok  there has been issues. 


Tip > When you insert the Vodafone SIM card the phone should then display the Vodafone name and proceed to send you set up texts. This is to change the internet Apn Settings so the phone connects to data. If the Apns do not come through and it won't connect then text WEB to 40127. Ensure mobile data is turned on. If no settings come back to you then manually input the Apn's. These can be found in Here.

Just thinking about the model of phone your interested in. 


Just to mention that as far as I'm aware there still isn't an option to download the myvodafone app for that operating system. 


Not sure if that would be a dealbreaker or not.

Got the 950 XL yesterday, put the SIM card in and powered it up.  So far, everything looks good


APN has autopopulated, and I have tested over 3g and 4g, both working as expeceted.

I have had a lot of difficulty in downloading my Vodafone UK app. There seems to be a tardiness in resolving this issue and also acvessing apps from google play.
