Solution

My Samsung Watch3 LTE refuses to make calls.

When connected via bluetooth to the Samsung S20 phone

  • When I try to make an outgoing call, it displays a message: "Call audio is switched off" - but I can't find an option to turn it on.
  • For incoming calls, the watch doesn't respond - just the phone rings

If the phone is switched off, and I wait for it to connect directly to Vodafone UK.

  • I can make and receive calls

The phone makes and receives calls perfectly, and the watch3 is paired with the phone.  I have VF OneNumber account.

I can send sms texts from the watch, but only if connected to the phone.

Any advice welcome!

@kev1nd It does sound like the OneNumber service is working correctly, if you can make and receive calls using the Watch unpaired from the phone. However, there's definitely something off nonetheless. Have you got an app installed on your phone, that navigates the Samsung Watch's settings?

@Josh

Thanks for coming back.  It looks like I've got it working - I've managed to get the watch to send and receive calls whether connected to the watch or not.

In case anyone else has the same problem:-

  • There doesn't seem to be a toggle that allows "Call audio" to be switched on or off - the solution in my case was to disable and re-enable bluetooth.
  • The above problem might have been caused in the first place by an incorrectly set up OneNumber account (the connection request didn't go through at first). Vodafone support fixed that for me.
  • When disconnected from the phone, it takes a few moments for the watch to then connect to 4G and/or Wifi directly. Trying to place a call before this happens doesn't work. You can tell how the watch is connected by swiping down - the text is at the bottom.
