Call forward on iphone5 not working

I've started using my work phone the majority of the time, but don't want to lose my personal mobile number (I've had it for ever).  So the plan was to simply forward all the calls from my personal phone (iphone5 on vodafone pay monthly) to my work phone (iphone 6s on vodafone pay monthly).  Seemed simple enough but ... when I use the Call Forward function in settings it allows me to punch in the forward-to number but when I go back the green forwarding button fades back to grey.  I've already got in touch with the help desk but they just keep giving me a link to a code **21*+44......#   and every time I use that I get an error message.

Honestly I'm thinking of getting a new cheapie phone just to allow me to do the call forward which seems ridiculous.  You'd think with the same network, same phone, it would be easy?!  Any ideas out there?

From what you have written Vodafone need to be looking at your account, there may be an issue with your account or the number you are wanting to divert to. 

 

However, as a workaround, try setting the divert through your online account.  This can be done by going to services and extras and scrolling down to call divert.   You will need to enter the PIN your have set up for account identification or the memorable word used to set up your online account.  You only then need to click change for the divert settings to come up.  This is also very useful if you have left your phone somewhere and need to pick up calls made to your number.
