Clearing cache - safe to do?

I've just noticed on the internal storage on my SGS4, the 'cached data' is showing as 4.65GB. Is this something that can be safely erased, or is it needed for something particular? I don't want to lose any saved data on my apps, messages etc etc..

The phone isn't running slow or anything, I just thought it 'could be' freed up?

You can clear this without worrying about deleting any software. 

Your cache and cookies will be made up of internet usage and will clear any used by your apps, and these will reappear when you use them again.
