Configuring 3G dongle (Huawei) and Router (Linksys WRT54G3GV2-VF)

I am using a Vodafone 3G dongle (Huawei E220) on my main desktop computer to access the Internet; no problems. I have a Linksys Router model WRT54G3GV2-VF connected to the desktop computer that provides fixed LAN and wireless connection to my laptop; no problems. I can use the dongle on either the desktop or laptop.

I want to now use the 3G capabilities of the Linksys Router by connecting the 3G dongle to the Router thus enabling both laptop and desktop to connect to the Internet without the need to physically move the dongle from one computer to the other.

My first step was to configure the Router by accessing the web based utility by entering 192.168.1.1 into my browser. This should bring up the password request followed by the Basic Setup page of the Router. However, the browser automatically changes the web address by adding HTTP:// on the front with the inevitable result of "page not found".

Can anyone please advise me how to avoid this and enable the loading of the Basic Setup page of the Router.

Hi Rodst

We have a Linksys router at home but my son is the wizard with it. I have seen him type the 192 address in our IE browser and load the page ok. I have just tried it here with IE and Firefox and get the same result as you..the http error.

There is Linksys forum page solely regarding the 192 connection issue. So many possibilities can cause the issue. I think it's the browser config but only you can determine this.

Ok all out there....can you help out?

I am sure the members will rise to the challenge also :)

Best wishes

http://192.168.1.1/ is a good address and I can use similar to access my own router, except the ip
address is different. My own router has a public ip address, rather than manufacturers default, and
firewall rules are set to only allow access either from lan or one of my ISP's ip addresses.
