Design fault with Sure Signal V3?

psychopomp1

I'm now on my fourth Sure Signal V3 unit (plug-in type) and it suffers from the same problems as the previous units...random disconnections. The disconnections sometimes occur a few times each day or once every few days. Having the unit resynced and/or doing a hard reset makes no difference. Once i lose connection, the unit re-connects within a few minutes but very annoying if you're in the middle of a call

So what makes me suggest the fault is with the unit itself?

1) My old V2 Sure Signal works flawlessly and up to now i have never experienced a single disconnection. I've now gone back to this but i would prefer to use the V3 due to being smaller.

2) There are many people on this forum who've reported the same fault with the V3. Since the disconnections occur randomly, some people may just accept them especially those who don't make many calls.

I initially thought the issue was with using a PPPoE connection but even using a PPPoA connection gives me intermittent disconnections. Nothing wrong with my internet speeds or ping tests (shown below). Perhaps Vodafone can look deeper  into this?

Hi psychopomp,

The v3 Sure Signal does require a slightly higher minimum speed that the earlier versions as it handles more traffic. This may mean that speed drops older versions would work through may affect the newer box. It's generally designed to work better, and there's no known issues with the unit.

The details you've posted look fine, although the Sure Signal serial you provided is dergistered so I only have limited information on there.

Click here to get us your details and we'll speak with our technical team to see if they can see anything more to shed any light.

I am on third vss3 all with same fault, speed tests all within limits it's only running 3 phones all should be fine? I run my ss3 on a timer on at 7 off at 11 it's hasn't failed all the time it's on "yet"! I personally think an electrical device cannot operate continuously at 48 degrees C ,hence a design fault?

I suspect you might be right, it does seem to get very warm and then suffer issues.

I've gone back to V2 and it works without any issues. To others having the same issue, buy a Version 2 Sure Signal from ebay and all your problems will be gone. I strongly suspect the V3 disconnects due to overheating because it does get quite hot.

Hi Guys

I will feedback your concerns about the VSS3 to the necessary team.

Nick3 - Is the current one working ok?

Thanks

Sukhi

I wonder if it makes a difference if you run them vertically or horizontally? I.e. Were they designed to self cool the right way up?

Hi cuthbiedatacard,

They do generate quite a bit of heat when running, and the vents are designed to cool them. The key thing is to make sure they're not blocked to allow good ventilation.

Dave

SureSIgnal version 3 doesn't have any vents as far as I can see.
