Solution

Headphone socket and tethering problem after Marshmallow Update - Smart Ultra 6

I have noticed on other forums alot of users having the same problems as I am after the recent android update.

Headphone socket works fine with headphones but not with an aux cable.

Wi-fi tethering turns itself off every few minutes

As a truck driver, in order to conserve the battery on the phone I Tether my tablet and connect my phone to the truck stereo through an aux cable to listen to my books and music.

Is anyone able to assist?

Thanks

It'll be interesting to see what the Tech Team say.  However, as this has been reported across a number of makes, it still could be something in Android.   Have a look in Settings|About|Software information and see whether your and your partner's phones both have the same securiity patch level.

Thanks! His is android 6 rather than 6.01 and security patch is one month earler. But a quick google and I cant see many reports of this issue on other handsets - mostly it relates to faulty hardware and problems on headphones as well as the socket.

Hopefully Vodafone will update us soon and confirm this is an issue that  they recognise to be widespread and that they are working on a fix - I hope they will adopt this approach rather than deny / drag their feet - fingers crossed!!!

Have they had any joy with looking at this?

I can send them my phone if they need something to physical to look at, just found a bag of old phones so I won't be totally stuck.

@Lenniehamilton We're currently still looking into this.

We've chased it up again and as soon as we have an answer, we'll update this thread.

I have the same problem with the phone not recognising an aux cable. It worked before the Marshmallow update. I tried the experiment of plugging in an old set of headphones (the phone registered them). I then cut off the headphone bits and plugged the cable back in and the phone no longer registered that the cable was plugged in. Similarly an aux extension lead (male to female) works when headphones are plugged in, but it isn't registered by the phone when the cable doesn't have headphones plugged in.

Hi there

Any joy with this yet?

If not then I will need to ask for a warranty repair or replacement as of t is costing me money due to missed work with me not being able to hear my employers calling me with shifts.

If that is the case could, you advise how I go about arranging this please?

Thanks

Lennie

I think this is an Android thing, and therefore isn't a fault, wouldn't be covered by warranty and won't be fixable.   If you're trying to connect to a vehicle, the only workround may be a separate Bluetooth adaptor that makes the connection to the radio.
