Hspda Card Ras 797 Error

This is a Dell XPS 1330 laptop with built in Dell Wireless 5520 Generic Mobile Broadband (3G HSDPA) Minicard. The card uses a Vodafone Sim bought last September which has worked OK until recently. Now although both the Vodafone Mobile Connect software and the Dell Mobile Connect utility (both latest versions) can see both 3G and GPRS signals when I then try to connect, it fails with an RAS 797 error. Device Manager shows the card and indicates it is working correctly. I uninstalled the card drivers then rebooted, allowing Windows to find the most recent drivers. The Sim works fine when in a mobile phone and connects to Vodafone Live. 4 hours on to Dell and Vodafone tier 2 tech help have not resolved it. Now what?

Hi rwestie,

I believe this is most likely to be a conflict between the two Connection software installations, who are both "fighting" over control of the Modem. They usually don't play well together, so I'm surprised you've been able to use it like this in the past!

I would recommend completely uninstalling either VMC or the Dell Connect Utility, and seeing how it behaves after that :)
If that fails, then it would seem to indicate a hardware failure with the Minicard itself, for which you'll need to seek a repair with Dell directly.

Hi Jon, thanks for the input. I uninstalled VMC, rebooted and tried the Dell utility by no luck. Then uninstalled the Dell, reinstalled the VMC from the latest download, but still no go. I'll try the hardware route
