Trying to set up my new Iphone6+ to sync with my Outlook account. Type in the email address then the password. Phone tries to verify account but comes up with message saying "Unable to verify account information". Tried changing the password in outlook, but still fails to verify. Any ideas?

What type of email account have you got. Is it an Exchange account or a POP3 account?

I think windows 8.1 uses exhange.

No sorry - let me try and explain.

Exchange is a type of email account that is typically provided by companies for employees. The data is held on a server and push through the network and internet to Outlook on the computer. It also uses the internet to wirelessly communicate with mobile phones.

If you don't have an Exchange account your email address will either be POP3 or Imap. In both cases you'll be able to download emails on to the phone from the mail server but you won't be able to communicate unless it's through iTunes by cable or Wi Fi connection when you and iTunes are on the same Wi Fi network.

How exactly are you trying to communicate with Outlook?

I have tried both. Connecting wirelessly to router and via cable through the computer. I used the "Mail, Contacts, Calenders button; then "Add Account" to set up the Outlook account using the same login and password as the computer's outlook. This is where I get the error message. If I access Outlook directly from the computer using the same login and password there's no problem.

Is it a live.com, Outlook.com or Hotmail.com email address?

It's a Outlook.com address.

And you are using the outlook.com option when you start to add a new account on the iPhone? Not Exchange or anything else?
