K3565 Not Working On Sony Laptop

Hi

I have recently bought a PAYG usb mobile broadband dongle, a Huawei K3565. I am trying to use this on a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ3XWP/C laptop running XP.

When I first connected the device the software did not install, so I downloaded and installed VMC from your website, the drivers for the device are now installed also. The problem is that when I run VMC and insert the usb device, the software cycles through the following, No Device - Mobile Device Detected - Searching For Network - No Device - Device Detected and so on.

When I open device manager, it looks like the device keeps re-setting, the device manager screen keeps refreshing and under storage volumes, one in a list of "generic volumes" keeps going from having a yellow "!" next to it, to not having the yellow "!".

Can anyone help as I'm lost as to what to do next??

Many Thanks
Graham

Hi Graham_33 and welcome to the eForum

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with this. I'm sure we'll be able to get everything up and running for you.

With the Sony Vaio's there is a lot of software that Sony put on the laptop as default. This can sometimes conflict with the USB Modem software.

Could you let me know if you have any software

Roxio Software
Norton Anti Virus
CD Burning Software

These can sometimes cause conflicts so can you uninstall them and retry. Could you also let us know which version of the VMC you are running?

I'm sure we'll be able to get to the bottom of this for you so just let us know and we'll be happy to help further

Thanks

Hi Wayne

Thanks for your reply, I have disabled my Norton Internet Security software and removed all Roxio software from my machine, but I'm still having the same problem.

The version of VMC I am running is 9.3.6.12095.

Can you suggest anything else?

Many Thanks
Graham

Hey Graham_33,

Shame to hear this - can you try the following please?:

- Plug modem in before booting computer

- Remove all other USB hardware, plug modem in direct (no hub)

- Use another USB port

- Assign an alternate Virtual Comm Port to the modem (within Device Manager)

- Try to connect via the Start > Connect To menu

- Disable the Mass Storage component in the Device Manager profile list

If things like assigning alternate Comm ports and disabling components give you the shivers, I would enlist the help of a qualified PC / IT repair tech to have a look at things. Please remember that we're not accredited Microsoft Repair techs, so can only give general advice based on experience. Let us know how you get on!
