I have a Huawei K3565 rev 2 dongle on pay as you go and this has worked ok on my windows xp laptop, i have just bought a Acer Aspire E1-571 laptop which is running Windows 8 and the laptop does not recognise the dongle. I have downloaded the latest Vodafone mobile broadband software and that launches when i insert the dongle but i get nothing else....with the software running it just picks up all the wireless networks by me. Probably just need some drivers i guess....please help!
Thanks

yes, its a beast of a thing...
I think it is:
Press the 'Advanced' button middle right hand side
Select the 'priorities' tab
'Add settings'
and create a new setting for the device.
Dire, really dire...

You've done it! Thank you very much! I'm writing this response via mobile.
In fact I found when I went to Priorities and clicked on Mobile Connections there was a "Settings" button there and that took me to the screen where I could change the APN (the others two settings you mentioned were OK).
What a palaver! You're welcome to call round for a beer when you're next in Gloucester!

Marvellous! Made my day! (- its a tech support professional thing - we wouldn't do it if we didn't get some gratification from it!)
Now, as compensation, how about posting the screenshots of the settings to the forum for anyone else?
I'll leave the software link up for anyone else has the same issue.
Andy.

You mean this?

Yes, super, thanks a lot. Excellent teamwork!
If anyone find the software and settings useful, please leave a thank you - We'd like to know.
Andy.

UPDATE
Whilst it's now working fine - and connecting automatically when I plug the dongle in without me having to action anything, which is a nice improvement over previously - there are two points to mention:
1. When plugged in, the Windows "new device" sound goes off, then the "disconnect device" sound a few seconds later, then the "new device" one again.
2. I've recently been getting the attached message saying Windows doesn't recognise the device. I suppose that might be the SD card element not the mobile broadband itself...
However neither of these quirks is affecting the correct performance of the dongle.
(off topic postscript: Chrome's spellchecker isn't working in this reply bo ?!?!?)

Hi drj,
Thanks for the heads up. As your device may be recognising both the dongle and memory card aspect, that may cause the double chine. It can also happen typically with USB 3.0 as I understand it.
As for the spell checker in Chrome, we see that too! It's why I always pop my replies into Microsoft Word to check for any lapses in concentration in my posts.
Cheers, Ben

Hi,
You might get multiple "device detected" chimes because, although there's only one physical device there are quite a few virtual devices mapped to it. What these virtual devices are depends on what model of dongle it is that's being used, but generally you'll have a network adapter, 2 x com ports, a modem and a CD-ROM drive al mapped to the USB modem.
The CD-ROM drive is what the USB modem initially presents itself as to Windows (so that the software can beinstalled from the device itself), then some USB devices get added, then these get enumerated to the com ports, modem driver and network adapter. Things have to work in this manner to allow the software from the device to get installed on device insert.
As for the unrecognised device, the Vodafone Mobile Broadband software uses the com ports to monitor signal and send commands to the USB modem, and the network adapter to connect, so you know that all 3 of these are OK, otherwise you wouldn't be able to connect or you'd get a "device not detected" message. I think the modem is also related to device detection, but it might be worth checking your device manager to see if it's present. The CD-ROM is likely to be present if you installed the software from the USB modem. So I guess this would leave the card slot/memory card in the modem if you have one. I might be worth having a look for USB mass storage device in your device manager.
I hope that helps.

I've run the Windows 8.1 Compatibility Checker and it reports 4 problems one of which is the Vodafone software I@m using to get my K3565 Rev2 dongle working on Windows 8.
Can I ask whether anyone using this dongle has successfully upgraded to 8.1 with their dongle still working?
At present I feel I'm going to HAVE to chuck it away now since already apps are being launched that will only run on 8.1 - this is only going to get more widespread.
