K3765 not recognised on Billion BiPac 6200NXL

Hello,

I just ordered a Vodafone K3765 mobile broadband dongle and I am trying to get it to work with my Billion BiPAC 6200NXL router. I believe the settings should be:

TEL No. *99#
APN pp.internet
username web
password web

But the router will not work with the dongle. I have tried a range of other options like using pp.bundle.internet and internet for the APN, as well as using *99***1# for telephone number but none of them work. I have just upgrade the router firmware from 1.02a to 1.02h but still no improvement. Could someone please give me some hints on how to get this thing to work?

Thanks in advance.

Hi KillerPlant,

I noticed you put pp.bundle.internet when the correct APN you're thinking of should be ppbundle.internet - so that would be the first place to start if it's as simple as a typo :)

The main thing to verify after that is that your modem actually works, so please try connecting it directly to a PC and making a connection to the internet with it. If this works, and you have credit on the modem, then we know it's the Router which is at issue.

Usually with these type of routers, they include a list of compatible modems - however, after having scoured the User Manual for this router (and given myself RSI in my scroll-finger in the process - what a hefty tome!) there is no such table. That strikes me as a bit ambitious since it implies that their hardware will work with any USB modem, regardless of manufacturer or model. With that in mind, it may simply be that the router is incompatible, but you'd need to check that with the manufacturer themselves :)

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your advice.

It seems that the 6200NXL currently does not support the K3765. There is a list of compatible 3G modem on their web site:

http://www.billion.com/compatible-3G.html

I purchased their 7402GXL as well, as the above URL indicates that it does support Vodafone K3765. The unit shipped with firmware version 5.53.s6.b1, which does not support K3765. However the newer firmware 6.01 does. I couldn't get hold of the 6.01 firmware on their UK web site but I managed to find it on their Australian website:

http://au.billion.com/product/wireless/fd_wireless/bipac7402gxl.php

I installed the firmware and I can confirm that it works with Vodafone K3765 3G USB dongle. Hope this helps anyone who might be looking for this information.
