I get a msg about needing info (balloon) when I start my laptop (Windows 7) and when I look in Device Mgr all I have listed is:
Vodafone Mobile Broadband Bus Enumerate Device (Huawei)
under: Universal Serial Bus controllers
I do have a 'USB Input Device' listed under 'Human Interface Devices'?
Should my K5150 be listed under a Modems heading (where dongles used to be)???
Sometime when I power up the laptop the dongle is not found - then when I unplug it and plug it in again it is, so I feel something is not quite right (although it does work ok!!!!).
Thanks anyone

Well, with a bit of plugging/unplugging etc. I find that the USB HID device is my external mouse that I use with my laptop, so my dongle does not show up, even when I do View Network Connections from the Start/Stop button - very strange.
It works so that is fine - but I would like to know the answer (being a techy person)!!

Have you tried removing the mobile broadband stick, starting up your laptop and inserting it once your laptop is fully loaded?

Yes, nothing seems to disappear and nothing seems to be added on Device Mgr - it just finds it and I can connect to it.
Is it because it is not unlocked i.e. Vodafone finds it and uses it but it is not available for general use?? That is all I can think of.

I have just found this on a website:
Some newer 4g dongles use usb network interface (rndis)
I think this is a way of not having to install drivers for the dongle - it is
just driven through the USB bus?

@prom22 The new K515 uses NDIS protocol driver.
It doesn’t show all of the individual elements like the older models.
In Device Manger, it may only occasionally show under universal service bus controllers.
