LOST Landline Number - Incompetence at the highest level.

bradshawd
4: Newbie

Went through the process of ordering Broadband thinking all I was doing was changing my billing company.

The Web order form even asked me for my current number. I did NOT choose a new line and have NOT, as far as I am aware been charged for a NEW line.

Day of activation and my landline which I needed to call urgently had been switched off. Vodafone in there wisdom have provided a new number ????

Now they tell me I cannot have it back.

3 x phone calls

1 x Web chat

5 x e-mails now (I think)

Still no resolution.

Is there anybody out there in VF land brave enough to call me.

Derek

Unless you moved over from NTL/Virgin or some Sky accounts, Vodafone should have been able to transfer your number across, except in ready strange circumstances.

Did any of the replies that you have had so far say why you've ended up with a new number?

Who was your old supplier? Is there anything they can do to keep the number safe while things are looked into?

Hi @bradshawd

Have Vodafone Customer Services explained why you can't have it back ?

This eforum is owned and monitored by Vodafone U.K. We have members of the Vodafone Tech Team who are available to Help where they can. All posts are read by them.

Previous provider was BT.  Number is now unobtainable apparantly....

I am still awaiting a response from Vodafone as to how they managed to let this happen. "ESPECIALLY" as I provided my number on the web form assuming they would port it over to my NEW, VF, billing company.

@bradshawd unfortunately home phone and Broadband are not  supplied in the same way as Gas and Electric. Vodafone is more than just a billing company in this instance, they are actually providing you with a service using their own network and equipment. There is no "National Grid" of phone broadband so changing supplies isn't just a case of changing who you pay money to.

That being said, assuming you're still connected to the same exchange (same area code) and your number wasn't some kind of special number that was required to remain with BT, there isn't any reason that i'm aware to for that number to not remain with you
All the website states regarding telephone numbers is:

Number Transfer: Our ability to transfer your number is subject to availability.

A bit more digging and the T+C's state:

3.5. We’ll try and retain your existing phone number when you transfer to us; however we can’t guarantee this and we may provide you with a new phone number. If we provide you with a phone line, and you don‘t ask us to transfer your existing number, we’ll allocate a new number to your phone line.

So it seems to me that Vodafone have given no gauruntee's that you'll be able to retain your number, even if you entered it during the sign up process. I hate to say it but I think you are going to struggle to get your old number back as Vodafone don't appear to have done anything outwith the terms you agreed with them.

No reason at all why the number should NOT have been ported. I am in the same house on the same pair of teloephone wires..  I even supplied my number to Vodafone as part of the sign up process..

I was NEVER informed by VF that I would lose my number and certainly NEVER informed of the new number.  It was only having to call home for an emergency that we discovered that our BT number had been cut off. It then took having to get somebody in the house to call back to a mobile to discover that the number had changed...

This is such a poor show from Vodafone.

Still NOT had any contact from VF 4 days on now.....  I thought jumping on this forum they would at least have had the decency to make an effort to contact me..

@bradshawd Vodafone will reply on this forum however this takes at least 24 hours. For anything urgent the advice usually given by the team is to contact Customer services via Live Chat or 191

Nabs,

Live chat have ststed they can get the number back. But upon sending that as a transcript to porting there seems to be a conflict.   Left Hand - Right Hand .....  Different planets.

Come on VF somebody has to be brave enough to actually call me...... I have spent a heap of time calling, tweeting and mailing you....
