Mobile Bb Via Router - Grainy Images. Compression - How Do I Turn It Off?

Hi,

I use one of the new VF Black USB Pro sticks along with an Edimax 3G-6200Wg Wireless router to share the connection with a few other laptops in our house.

I'm aware of the compression feature that VMC uses if you plug the USB device directly into your laptop and the effect this has on the images you browse on the web.

My question is, how can I disable the compression when using a router?
Images on the web are all grainy and though the shift+F5 trick works to refresh the page - I'd rather not do this on 'every' page.

How can I achieve best results and see images in their full glory when browsing via the router\usb modem setup?

Cheers :)

Hi Nobbysnuts

Lets see what we can do in our pursuit of Glorious images (queue Reidarsism), :)

The basic setup wil still apply via the router, essentially i don't think the router is doing it's own optimization, however by installing a different version of VMC we can selectively disable optiisation.

I'm not one for uninstalling software that is essentially working and non-faulty, however for purposes of glory we may have no option here.

1. Our first step would be to uninstall the current VMC via your Control panel and 'Add/Remove progremmes'.

2. Secondly we'll need to download and install VMC 9.2 (older version) fomr HERE, make sure you reboot your computer first though.

3. Once complete you should note some performance differences.

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for the relpy.

Will the 'older' version of VMC lite support the K3565?

If not, is there no way of changing the current version to disable the compression?

Many thanks

Hi nobbysnuts

Thanks for coming back to us here.

Yes the older version of VMC supports all of our modems and data cards. Give it a whirl and let us know how you go on :)

Please let me know if you have any more questions and we'll be more than happy to help you further

Thanks

Sorry for not replying sooner - been enjoying some sun far far away.

The dongle is connected directly to my router via USB.
Obviously I need to connect it directly to my laptop to downgrade the VMC, but how do I downgrade the actual software on the dongle?

I want to try 9.2 - but how do I do this if Im not going to be running the dongle as a USB modem but via a router instead?
Can I just copy the VMC app to the dongle and bypass compression?

Cheers

Hi Nobby

Thanks for coming back to us.

I'm really not sure that you will be able to do this when using the modem in a router as the software that you would download (VMC) is not software that is applied to the modem. It's just a dashboard program that runs on your PC. Kinda like a a pretty front end to Windows Connection Manager which also has the compression element.

It looks like you are just being affected by Network compression (As there are two types.) Unfortunately there is no way of removing this other than the F5 solution. As far as I am aware though we are slowly trying to phase out the compression side of things as certain areas of our network do not have the network compression.

Please let me know if you have any more questions and we'll be more than happy to help you further

Thanks
