Mobile Broadband Roaming R Symbol While In Uk

starman316
Not applicable
I was out in suffolk yesterday and was using my notebook and noticed when i tried to connect

the R symbol was next to the Vodafone UK in mobile connect software

How very odd. It would not let me connect even to 3G or GPRS

Location used was the A145 4 miles north of Halesworth, Suffolk

I presumed as it was in and out of gprs and 3g i know Beccles is up the road which has 3G

But WHY the roaming icon and not able to connect

Ended up using the O2 Dongle in the end!

Although after repeated tests, Vodafone does fair better at connection speeds

Vodafone in this area (lowestoft) 1mb and above average

O2 HSPDA 65kbps average, not seen anything higher than 110kb

Otherwise very happy with the service

Hi LeeL,

Hmmmm.....interesting.....I've had a look at the sites that serve the area you advised and there's 2 possibilities - site 5832 at Barnaby Green or 5083 at Shadingfireld near the Caravan and Camping site and they're both working fine in the last 15 minutes, there's nothing reported on our noticeboards either. It would have been fantastic to have been able to check this real-time but that's unfortunately not possible. :(

As or the roaming notification icon, I can only summise that your connection is set to roam when out of Vodafone coverage, though you'd not be able to connect to a competitor network in the UK

Let us know next time you're in the area if you have any problems.

Cheers,

LeeH
