Solution

No data roaming in US - PDP authentification failure

I'm using my iPhone 6 abroad for the first time (in the US) but it won't connect to data services - I can only make calls and texts.

Data roaming is turned on and my phone shows 3G, but if I try to actually use data I get an error: "could not activate mobile data network" and sometimes also "PDP authentification error".

Data worked fine in the UK. It's connected to AT&T in the US, but I have the same problem with all other US networks too.

After a couple of long calls with Vodafone I have:
- restarted
- reset network settings
- manually selected a different network and then switched back
- turned off 4G and Euro Internet
- checked mobile data APN settings
- removed and reinserted SIM
- confirmed no roaming cap / call bar applies

Any other ideas / solutions?

Thanks
Adam

Hi Adam_jobson,

It looks like you've done all the troubleshooting steps

One thing you've not mentioned is if you've managed to stay connected to a different network? As the issue may be with the network.

If you're still not able to connect, please get in touch here.

Thanks,

I posted a solution to this on the forum last month. Basically, in settings you need to have your data roaming turned on, but eu Internet turned off. Restart and then should work. I was tearing my hair out for two days on this when visiting Holland last month.
