Not registered on Network (again)

Love my S4, when released I got a new one that kept losing the signal and needed restarting to make it recognise the network, after 4 attempted repairs when they could find no problem it was replaced with a reconditioned phone. Now 15 months on and this phone has now started to do the same thing. I can use the sim card in my Tab without any problem, so it must be the phone. It has been away for repair already and the second time is coming. The question is how long before the replace the phone again for another refurbished unit, 2 3 or 4 repair attempts. For location I am in London so signals should not be a problem. Unless VF get their act together my 3 contracts will be going to another network

It might be worth getting a replacement SIM, just to eliminate that as the problem - even though it works in another device.

Hi @PeteSullivan

I understand your SIM is ok in another phone, although as @hrym has advised, it may be worth testing a new SIM.

If you’d like us to order one for you, contact us here or pop into store.

If this is happening in various places, it’ll be a fault with the phone.

We’ll need to send it for repair again, please see here.

Thanks,

Gemma

I'm having the same problem (amongst others!) and I'm pretty sure it started around the time of the Samsung update at the end of September, which would suggest it is not just a problem with this particular user's phone. Since the update last week I am now experiencing more problems but cannot get hold of anyone on customer services to get any "support".

If you're having problems following an update, the first thing to try is a factory reset as it removes any bits of the old systme that are hanging round and confusing the system.  Don't forget to back up your content first.  If the phone had to go away for repair, this would be part of the process, so you won't have lost anything by giving it a go.

Vodafone repair centre just called and they insist the problem with the not registered on network is the sim card.  I am not totally sure how stupid people can be but it is a problem with the phone not the sim card.

About to start a new thread called *Phone Overheats" with the vodafone repair centres solution, I have this on a voicemail for proof, is a must read for the comedy value.

If you could explain how you know that, it owuld be helpful.   Personally, I'd try a factory reset and a new SIM as the first lines of attack, if only to rule out the SIM and a software issue.

You want me to explain, then I will.  I have 3 contracts with Vodafone and hence 3 sim cards, the other devices are a S3 and a Tab3, the sim cards from these devices all work perfectly unless they are in the S4 when they lose the network, so 3 devices and 3 sim cards, S3 and Tab3 both work with all the sim cards but the S4 has problems.  You now explain why it is not the S4 that is faulty.?  It also overheats as stated in the other thread, strange none of the other devices overheat as well.
