Port Blocking on PAYG

What in and outbound port blocking is applied to PAYG 3G Dongles? I'm using APN:smart in case that makes any difference. Does switching to a monthly contract change the port blocking options?

I've just worked out you are allocating private IP addresses. Do you offer an option, or APN setting, to allocate a public IP address? It does not matter if it is dynamic as long as it is public.

@arjarj

We don't apply any inbound or outbound blocking on our dongles.

We provide a private IP address which allows the NAT (network address translation) to convert it it a public address, this then connects through our gateways and onto our servers.

There is no option to provide an alternative IP address.

I accept the dongle itself does not do any port blocking. However the port blocking essentially happens on your network as a result of the NAT. Do you know of any Vodafone service (or external providers) that offers a public, potentially dynamic, IP address rather than a private address?

Hi @arjarj

I can only reiterate what Dave has said above. We do not block ports and nor do we provide public IP addresses.

Thanks,
