I purchased a Vodaphone R 207 while abroad as I couldn't get any wi fi anywhere.  and was told it would work anywhere in the world. I had travelled a few hundred miles from where I purchased it so couldn't return to the shop.   I went into the local Vodaphone outlet and they tried to use it but told me that it would not work and said that as it was purchased abroad it probably wouldn't work here I paid for it on credit card and have disputed the transaction and the credit card issuer said if I had proof that it didn't work I would be re-imbursed.

Vodafone Networks abroad are not affiliated with other Vodafone Networks. So it is likely that the device is locked to the foreign Vodafone Network and won't work on Vodafone Uk.  

Im not sure how Vodafone Uk would be able to help in this case.

You possibly would have to contact the other countries Vodafone Customer Services you bought it from by looking for their Contact Us link in their homepage.
