Solution

Ras 720 With E172

claudiouk
Not applicable
Hi, I've been succesfully using the mobile broadband with the USB modem E172 for 3/4 months but a few days ago it stopped working and now I can't connect anymore.
This is the error message that I'm getting with Vodafone Mobile Connect:

Mobile connection not possible.

- Set your current mobile device as the default
device in the 'Manage Devices' view
- Ensure that no other programs are using your
mobile device and try again in a short while
- Delete the device in the 'Manage Devices' view,
add it back again, and then try connecting.

If this error persists, please contact Support
at your mobile network operator.

Support information:
RAS error code 720

This used to work before on the same laptop (T60 Thinkpad with Windows XP).
Any suggestion on what the problem could be?

Hi,

I've just succesfully performed all the requested activities and it did work!
I had to reboot a couple of times and then it connected straight away.

Many thanks for your help

Claudio

I helped someone the otherday with this on an IBM and he said that it occurred at about the same time he ran the ThinkVantage updater and saw Access Connections updating which confirms my suspicions.
Glad you got it back to normal again.

For anyone else using this, only apply this to an IBM Lenovo machine, there are different circumstances for other manufacturers that are far less painful to resolve.

Hi

Im having the same problem but i have windows XP computer and a K3520 USB lite. When i spoke to Vodafone Tech department they told me my device was faulty so i have had a new one but still have same problem.

The error message the first time was "connection to the remote computer could not be established". Now when i try to connect i have "error 720". I have tried going into Manage devices and selecting this has default but still the same.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Emma

I imagine Emma that you are most likely to be using an IBM.
The other notorious offenders for this problem are HP, Dell and Toshiba.
If you are using an IBM, the fix is listed in this thread, if you are not great around computers, I might suggest you get somebody who is to work through the steps I detailed earlier.
If it is not an IBM, before going through this process, let us know what machine it is and there are a couple of simpler things to try.

Hi emma@veecom and welcome to the eForum,

As you can see this's a really great place to get help on a whole range of topics and it's great to see that a couple of our other members have offered their help.

As vodabusiness says try the fix posted if your machine is an IBM but if it isn't just let us know what you've got and we'll take it from there.

Many thanks,

Lee

Hello

I am experiencing the same problem with a TOSHIBA (TECRA A9) laptop with XP Professional.

Have already tryied the pcmcia card, the usb box and the usb pen. Don´t get connected anymore in this PC (error 720), although it works fine in my wife´s PC.

Have completely uninstalled the vodafone connection software for several times and reinstalled it. Have been in touch with the vodafone assistance and they confirm it is a problem with the PC.

Can you help me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Nj05

Welcome to the Vodafone eForum community.

In relation to your post. The Toshiba laptops do have intermittent 720 errors with opur modems. I would firstly try to uninstall and reinstall the device again; if this doesn’t work then you will need to follow the instructions on this previous thread

Simply installing and uninstalling the modem is not going to rectify this Windows error.

3 things i suggest trying on your Toshiba.

1. Check in Device Manager and see if you have an adapter in Network Adapters that stands out wih a yellow exclamation mark against it. If you do, is it a WAN miniport (IP)?
If yes, post here and I can advise further.

2. In the event that the above is not the case, locate your LAN and wireless adapters in Device Manager and uninstall them by right clicking and selecting "Uninstall".
Once they are both gone, Use the "Scan for hardware changes" option in the Action menu and Windows should redetect and install them both. Make a couple of attempts to dial through the modem again once the adapters are back as they should be.

3. Finally, try using RAREPAIR which is available to download. I think a link to it has been recently posted inthese forums somewhere.

From experience, one of these three options will work on a Tosh.

Here is the result:

There was no yellow exclamation mark on the devices. That was the first thing I had checked before.

So I've uninstalled the lan and wireless devices has you say, and searched for them again. After reinstallation of them, tryed the connection but no success. Still the 720 error.

Finally tryed the RAREPAIR. The kaspersky antivirus detected a suspicious action by the software, but I allowed it. It removed something during the first phase, and asked for reboot.
After reboot it reinstalled something and asked for another reboot.

After the second reboot, I've started the vodafone connection software and tryed the connection.

It connected at the first attempt!

Thank you so much for the help!

I was already thinking about formatting the hard drive and reinstall everything.

Excellent. Keep on the good work.
